Project aims

Our collaborative purpose in more detail

We are working with high-school students aged 12-14, living in different rural areas of Highland, to create a preventative, nature-based activity to build resilience and promote mental wellbeing in young people before mental health problems arise.

We are doing this by working closely with young people over a series of six participatory workshops held in their schools. The workshops’ core outlines will be produced in consultation with expert stakeholders including young people with lived experience of mental health services, health, education and youth service staff, and staff working in communal greenspaces.

Over the project we aim to answer these questions:

  1. How do rural high-school students understand mental health and wellbeing?
  2. What are rural high school students’ mental health needs and what are the priorities for service provision?
  3. How do rural high school students use green spaces and nature for mental health and what are the barriers they encounter?
  4. What is the best way to work with high school students to co-produce interventions?
